Brazilian Walking Iris

The Brazilian Walking Iris (Neomarica gracilis) forms elegant fans of glossy, sword-shaped foliage that arch outward in a lush, architectural spray. It earns its name from a charming habit: after flowering, plantlets form at the tips of the flower stems, which bend and root wherever they touch the soil, so the plant slowly "walks" its way across a bed or pot. Fleeting but exquisite white-and-blue iris-like blooms appear through the warmer months, making it a rewarding feature for a bright patio, a courtyard container, or a well-lit indoor corner.

Give it bright, indirect light or a spot with gentle morning sun to encourage flowering, and keep the soil consistently moist through the growing season, easing off a little in cooler weather.
