Phormium 'Chieftain', or New Zealand Flax, is a bold, architectural plant with dramatic upright, sword-like leaves in rich bronze and burgundy tones. Tough and eye-catching, it makes a superb structural feature in garden beds, borders and large pots, and holds its striking colour all year round.
It's a hardy, versatile and low-maintenance plant that thrives in full sun to part shade and copes with a wide range of conditions. Drought-tolerant once established, it asks for very little beyond a sunny spot and well-drained soil, making it a reliable, high-impact choice for the garden.
