Platycerium Superbum

The magnificent Platycerium superbum, better known as the Elkhorn Fern, is a striking epiphyte that turns any wall or timber slab into living sculpture. It produces two kinds of fronds: a rounded, papery shield frond that clasps its mount and a spray of forked, antler-like fertile fronds that arch outward in a soft grey-green. Naturally growing on tree trunks in the rainforest canopy, it is happiest mounted and hung in a sheltered patio, verandah or bright bathroom where its dramatic silhouette can be admired from every angle.

Give your Elkhorn bright, filtered light out of harsh midday sun, and keep the humidity up with the occasional misting. Water by soaking the root ball a couple of times a week in the warmer months, letting it dry slightly between drinks, and ease right back over winter. Grown and potted on-site, each plant is hand-picked and ready to settle into its new home.
