How to grow: Radishes are one of the fastest and easiest crops to grow, ideal for beginners. Sow directly where they are to grow, as they don't like being transplanted. They do best in the cooler months of autumn, winter and early spring, and prefer a sunny to partly shaded spot with loose, well-drained soil. Sow seeds about 1 cm deep and thin seedlings to around 5 cm apart so the roots have room to swell. Keep the soil consistently moist, as dry spells make the roots woody and overly hot. Radishes germinate quickly, usually within a week, and are ready to pull in just four to six weeks. Sow a short row every couple of weeks for a steady supply. Good companions include carrots and lettuce.
