How to grow: Chillies love warmth and reward a little patience. Sow seeds about 5 mm deep into trays or pots in early spring, and keep them warm, around 20 to 25 degrees, as they need heat to germinate, which can take two to three weeks. Grow seedlings on and transplant into a warm, sunny, sheltered spot with rich, well-drained soil once the weather has warmed and all frost has passed. They also do very well in pots. Space plants around 40 to 50 cm apart. Water regularly but let the surface dry slightly between waterings, and feed through the season. Plants reach about 60 cm. The more you pick, the more the plant produces, and fruit left on the bush ripens from green to red. Good companions include onion and calendula.
